What is a certificate of employment Sweden?

If you are looking for another job, applying for training etc., you may need proof that you are currently employed at SLU. You can request proof of employment from the Division of Human Resources. A proof of employment letter states your title, how long you have been employed and your salary.

How do I get an employment certificate in Sweden?

An employer can be certified by the Swedish Migration Agency, which provides faster processing. We strive to make decisions for complete applications for a work permit within ten working days for the first application and 20 working days for a renewal application.

The certification applies to the first and renewal application for a work permit and application from former students who have had a residence permit in Sweden and are applying for a work permit. Even family members who apply at the same time as the employee are included in the certification. Persons applying for a work permit when they are in Sweden to visit employers, for example, are not covered by the certification.

Even though the possibility of becoming a certified operator is closed for new submissions, you who already are a certified employer can represent other companies in the application process.

If the certified employer wants to register new companies that he or she represents, this is done through the Swedish Migration Agency’s e-service. Notice of registrations of new subsidiaries is provided within 20 working days.

Even you who represent a relocation company, send information about new companies through the Swedish Migration Agency’s e-service.

You can download a granted certificate and cover letter from our eServices. You can print them yourself or download them to a mobile device. The Finnish Centre for Pensions will send you an e-mail when the certificate and cover letter are ready to be downloaded. The e-mail includes the CaseID with which you can search for the data of a granted certificate.

You will also get the certificate and cover letter on paper by post.

What are the forms of employment in Sweden?

An employment relationship is based on an employment contract, whereby the employee agrees to perform work personally for the employer, under the employer's direction and supervision in return for remuneration. An employment contract may appear in different forms (written, oral, electronical, and tacitly arisen) and types. Briefly below are the most common employment contract types and a few thoughts of the related topical issues.

Based on their duration, employment contracts may be divided into indefinitely valid contracts, fixed-term contracts and so-called "hybrid" contracts. The most common type, indefinitely valid employment contract, is valid for an unlimited period of time. A fixed-term employment contract may be concluded on the employer's initiative only, if a justified reason exists (e.g. nature of the work, peak periods etc.). As a main rule and contrary to indefinitely valid employment contract, unless otherwise agreed (please see below the "hybrid" contract), a fixed-term employment contract terminates (and may not be terminated on either party's initiative) when the agreed contract period comes to an end.
